500 Students delve into the world of work at Bradford Academy Sponsor Day
Now in its fourth year, the Bradford Sponsor Day helps students between the age of 11 and 16 to develop the skills needed for life in employment, by providing pupils with an opportunity to talk to businesses about working life, and different career paths.
The event consisted of interview practice, guest speakers, a careers event and an enterprise competition. The enterprise competition saw students participate in an innovative subscription service challenge to design their own product to compete with market leaders such as Netflix and Graze.
The day was supported by over 30 business volunteers, from organisations including TransPennine Express and Yorkshire Building Society, who participated in practice interview sessions, held stalls at the careers fair, and assisted with the judging of the enterprise competition.
Samantha Taylor, Progressions Manager at Bradford Academy, added:
“The experience Day is a great opportunity for our students to engage with future employers and higher education providers and look at the different careers that are available to them on their doorstep. Many of our students struggle to decide what route they would like to take once they leave school, and the events provide a solid guidance around where to start when selecting a career path, and how to get to where they want to be.
“We have worked with Ahead Partnership for a number of years on this event and have really fine-tuned it to be exactly the experience our learners need and offer the type of activity that is going to be most valuable to the students. We look forward to running further events with the support of Ahead Partnership across the rest of the academic year.”
