Capsticks Opening Doors prepares Birmingham students for life beyond school

Opening Doors with law firm Capsticks in Birmingham took place last month with a bespoke day to help prepare local Year 10 students for either university or life beyond school.

Capsticks and their partners worked together with Ahead Partnership to create and deliver workshops around a number of vital life skills for the world beyond school, including:

  • interview skills needed for an assessment centre
  • personal safety
  • life at University
  • moving out and tenancy agreements/rights
  • mental health and wellbeing workshops to increase resilience
  • finance (managing student loans or first pay cheques)

Hosted at the University of Law, their student ambassadors also supported the school students on the day. 91 students from Swanshurst School, City Academy, Cockshut Hill School and Tile Cross Academy took part.

Faron Convey, Project Coordinator at Ahead Partnership, said: "This interactive day was sponsored by Capsticks to help local students understand the essential skills they need to get a job and manage every day life. Capsticks and their partners brought thought and imagination to their workshops to help students really get to grips with what the working world is all about and as a result 91% of students felt more positive about their futures - a fantastic result!"
