Carleton High School get a closer look at careers in Pontefract

800 students at Carleton High School quizzed local employers about opportunities and career routes at a careers marketplace event in Pontefract this week.

Students from all year groups seized the opportunity to engage with twenty employers and learning providers, finding out more about the qualities required to succeed in the workplace and the future learning opportunities available in a wide range of industries.

Businesses involved included the Armed Forces, the Royal Airforce, Bill Skidmore Design, construction industry board CITB, housing provider WDH, fresh meat supplier Dovecote Park, XPO Logistics and Wakefield Council.

The students also got a hands-on demonstration of working with animals from the Dogs Trust as well as advice on apprenticeships and further learning from Barnsley College, Babington Group, 3aaa and Wakefield College.

Alex Peel, our Project Coordinator for the region, said: "The students had lots of inciteful questions for the business volunteers, with many of them interested in finding out more about transferable skills they can develop if they weren't sure what career they want to do right now. It was fantastic to see every year group at the school engaging with these local employers and finding out how they can ensure their future success."
