Guiseley School students master interview technique with the help of local businesses

Business volunteers from O2, JM Glendinning, Yorkshire Building Society and Easypay Services were among the professionals giving Guiseley School students their first taste of a real interview this week.

220 Year 11 students spent the day practicing their interview skills, with each student taking part in a one-to-one session with a role model from the business world. Questions were focused around their future ambitions, subject choices and how their skills might make them invaluable to employers.

Students were then given feedback by the volunteers before being able to take away their own personal feedback notes to ensure future success. The day culminated in an awards assembly where each volunteer presented their top performing interviewee with an achievement certificate.

Volunteer Karen from Yorkshire Building Society said "I was very impressed with the students I interviewed - they were well prepared and well presented."

Volunteer Alison from Easypay Services said "This is a great idea and gives young people access to a very valuable experience. I really enjoyed being able to introduce students to a bit more of the outside world."
