Leeds employers matched with local young talent

7th May 2015

Last week saw the first Talent Match Matching Event take place with Pinsent Masons playing host to a number of businesses and young people on the Big Lottery Fund’s Talent Match programme.

A range of businesses attended, from national estate agencies to local manufacturing businesses, each willing to offer a Job Creation (a 6 month position funded by the Big Lottery Fund) for the young people. Each business was keen to connect with young people on Talent Match and to support them into paid employment within their organisations through a Job Creation.

The Job Creation is an integral part of the Talent Match programme as it allows long-term unemployed young people, aged 18-24, to build on their skills, broaden their experiences and move from being long term unemployed into full time employment. 18 young people attended the event, as part of the ongoing programme which is being delivered across West Yorkshire by a collaboration of partners, including Ahead Partnership (who are responsible for employer engagement).

The young people who attended were very enthusiastic and keen to meet up with employers. The event gave the young people the chance to speak with organisations and learn more about the roles they were offering whilst also enhancing their professional communication skills and confidence. It was an exciting, if challenging, event for some of the young people but a real success with many of them securing interviews for roles on the day.

The success of this event could lead to similar events being held in other Talent Match areas: Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.

If you are an employer in Leeds, Calderdale, Kirklees or Wakefield and would be interested in offering a fully funded 6 month job placement for a young person, please contact Sophie & Emily for more information.
