FOCUS: Give employment seekers in the Calderdale area supported by Halifax Opportunities Trust the opportunity to meet and speak to local employers about career opportunities and raise their confidence in applying for local jobs.

The first Employment & Opportunities Fair in collaboration with Halifax Opportunities Trust was held at Dean Clough’s Crossley Gallery in August 2018. Around 150 people visited the fair and had the opportunity to talk directly with potential employers.

Businesses and organisations from across Calderdale and wider West Yorkshire engaged with potential employees and volunteers.  Businesses that attended included XPO Logistics, NatWest, Nestle, Calderdale Council and Covea. We also welcomed support services Citizens Advice Calderdale, Voluntary Action Calderdale, Halifax Central Initiative and North Halifax Partnership to offer advice and support to attendees.

Attendees were able to speak to employers about opportunities in the local area, the skills employers are looking for and how they can boost their CVs and interview skills to be successful when applying for local jobs. The event also included workshops of self-employment and online presence.

The Fair was funded as part of the Hopeful Families project. Hopeful Families is jointly funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund.
