Where do I find out more information about apprenticeships? Where can I find an apprenticeship in Leeds? How do I apply? What skills are employers looking for?
These are just some of the questions that arose at Apprenticeships Yorkshire on 7th May.
The event took place at the Asda MCE, Leeds. Over 25 businesses attended - including AECOM, BAE Systems, BT Open Reach, Eversheds, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, One Subsea, Superdrug, Optare and The Big Word - to raise the profile of apprenticeships in Yorkshire.
Business were invited to attend based upon their internal apprenticeship schemes, 90% of which had live vacancies.
The event began with keynote speaker Phil Ball MD, Kodak who addressed the issue of the skills gap within the region. Students were then free to speak to all the exhibitors to ask any questions that they may have. For any students that needed help, Leeds ATA, QA, Yorkshire Housing and Personal career management all delivered workshops around the apprenticeship application process.
Feedback from students included:
‘Everyone was very friendly, open to answering questions’. ‘[I] received good information about apprenticeships’. ‘[The event was] very helpful. I have enjoyed it because it gave me plenty of opportunities’.
‘I have found things that I am now interested in’.
Ahead Partnership would like to thank all businesses that came to exhibit at the event and hope to see you all again next year!< Back to all news stories
