Outwood Grange Academy students get first taste of Make the Grade

Business volunteers from Arena Group, O2, XPO Logistics and Plexus Law were among the professionals giving Outwood Grange Academy students in Wakefield their first taste of a real interview last month.

170 Year 12 students spent the day practicing their interview skills, with each student taking part in a one-to-one session with a role model from the business world. Questions were focused around their future ambitions, subject choices and how their skills might make them invaluable to employers.

Students were then given feedback by the volunteers before being able to take away their own personal feedback notes to ensure future success.

As a result, 99% of the students involved say it improved their confidence, 90% said it improved their understanding of the types of careers available to them and 100% said it improved their speaking and listening skills for the future.

Volunteers said: "The school and Ahead Partnership have done a great job of preparing the students. They've got a really good attitude and took the event seriously" and "I really enjoyed the interviews. All of the students seem very focused and willing to participate in this activity."
