"There is a massive opportunity within Manchester for businesses to come together and invest in the future workforce. Through Growing Talent Digital Manchester, we are empowering businesses in the tech and digital sector to shape the direction of the programme for maximum impact on young people in the city to ensure the skills they are learning and the careers they are made aware of align with the needs of the industry. We’re really excited to see how this programme shapes future outcomes for young people and the local business community." - Megan Lipp, Head of Growth at Ahead Partnership

87% of advertised jobs in the UK require digital skills. In Manchester alone there are almost 82,000 people employed in digital but the vast majority of businesses still report difficulty in recruiting candidates with the skills they need. The Manchester tech scene is thriving but many young people in the city do not see themselves in a career in tech, potentially due to misconceptions about the roles available, unconscious bias, or lack of representation.

Growing Talent Digital Manchester is an Ahead Partnership innovation that is tackling this problem by harnessing the combined resources of many different employers and partners to inspire and encourage young people aged 11-18 years to pursue a career in digital.

Co-led and funded by some of the city's top employers, Growing Talent Digital Manchester brings together organisations with a passion for social mobility to co-design and co-lead an innovative programme of events aimed at young people that raise awareness and aspirations for a career in digital and tech within the city.

The programme is designed to address the specific skills gaps in digital and STEM and develop a pipeline of talent for the city by targeting young people that do not currently see their place in these jobs. Working together we aim to break down barriers and address misconceptions to improve the diversity of the future workforce and ensure digital jobs are accessible to everyone.
