Growing Talent BPFS West Midlands
Young people have never faced a more uncertain future. At this moment, we know that employers want to play their part in helping young people face the future with greater confidence.
For a second year, Growing Talent BPFS West Midlands is being led by social enterprise Ahead Partnership and supported by funding from private sector employers to help young people across the West Midlands see their place in Business, Professional and Financial Services. It builds on four successful years of activity delivered in Birmingham during Professional Services Week.
Growing Talent BPFS West Midlands is an opportunity to support young people from all backgrounds in the West Midlands to overcome the challenges that have disproportionately affected them.
Why get involved?
There are opportunities for everyone to volunteer their support and/or sponsorship through this programme. Your involvement will help young people in a really practical way and help them to envision a more positive future. The programme allows businesses to play their part in creating a more equal and inclusive society, whilst reaching out to potential talent and the unique skills and perspectives that young people can bring to the sector.
All the activities in the programme are organised by Ahead Partnership with support and resources that help volunteers get involved, whether you are office or home based.
How does it work?
There are opportunities for everyone to get involved regardless of the size of organisation. This programme has been specifically designed to include the use of digital resources, recorded events and virtual “live” events as well as face-to-face activities to ensure we can reach as many young people as possible. All aspects of this exciting sector will be covered.
There are a range of activities on offer which will include careers panels, video resources, live brief projects, Meet the Employer events, sponsored workshop masterclasses and assessment centres as well as inspirational speakers and interview practice.
There is also be a suite of self-directed resources that focus on six key subsectors - PR and Marketing, ProTech, Commercial Law, HR & People, Built Environment and Corporate Finance. All digital work booklets include student activities such as research tasks, workshops, videos, and future signposting to help them really get to grips with these particular sectors in BPFS.
To date, Growing Talent BPFS West Midlands has engaged over 25,000 young people from 60 schools and colleges across the West Midlands and 91% of the students that have taken part say it has increased their understanding of the different roles in BPFS.
This year we've worked with top local employers to produce an exclusive set of interactive learning resources that students in Key Stages 4 and 5 can use to get inspired and learn directly about some of the roles and skills needed for key subsectors.
