Raising Aspirations amongst Aspire2Work Students

22nd May 2015

Northern Powergrid, Natwest, Royal Air Force – just some of the big names exhibiting at a Raising Aspirations Careers Fair held recently, as part of the Aspire2Work programme.

Students from across Bradford attended the event, at Kala Sangam Arts Centre, and spoke to various local and national businesses about opportunities and the skills required to succeed in their industries.

The event formed part of Aspire2Work’s series of Meet the Business events, a programme aimed at developing the skills and employability of unemployed young people studying vocational qualifications in the Bradford area by connecting them with businesses.

The exhibitors had all prepared interactive activities to ensure maximum engagement from the young people. A particular hit was Specsavers’ stand, with staff allowing students to get hands-on in a workshop involving coloured lenses.

“It’s always a pleasure to engage with youngsters on the brink of employment” said one business volunteer with a student commenting: “I learnt how to build a future and about different roles.”

Two further Meet the Business events are planned for this month, with one focussing on apprenticeships and further education on 11th June, and another on volunteering and work experience on 23rd June.
