St Wilfrid's students put their burning questions to Wakefield employers

IMG_0924Year 10 Media Studies students from St Wilfrid's Academy in Wakefield asked their questions about working in the creative industries with an interactive panel of Yorkshire businesses.

Business volunteers from the arts, media, marketing, design and creative roles from Leeds Bradford Airport, Backstage Academy, Illuminous Media and Sky were amongst the panelists answering questions about career paths, regional opportunities and the skills and qualities required for success in these industries.

The mentoring is part of the NCOP programme which is aimed at supporting the most disadvantaged young people in England in progress on to Higher Education.

100% of the students take took part said that they had a better understanding of the skills and qualifications needed for a future career in media/arts and 84% said the panel improved their feelings about the future.

One Year 10 student said of the event: "I have a better idea of what jobs are out there in this industry and what they're actually like. The panel has given me great insight into careers in media in Yorkshire that I know will be useful for me in the future."
