Premier Farnell and Leeds Beckett inspire Yorkshire students to follow a career in Science

Premier Farnell is partnering with Ahead Partnership and Leeds Beckett University to run an exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) based challenge for 11 secondary schools in the Leeds City Region.

The challenge will involve competing schools researching, designing and producing a piece of wearable technology featuring the CodeBug – a piece of technology created to help introduce the younger generation to electronics and programming. Each school will have a mentor from the Electrical Engineering and Design departments at Leeds Beckett University to guide them through this intricate world of programming.

The aim of the interactive and educational challenge is to inspire students to consider a career in science and engineering through hands on experience of what is available to them within the sector. The activity will also develop the students’ key skills such as problem solving, team work and communication.

The challenge will be launching on the 9th December and the schools will have until March to create their piece of wearable tech. The finale for the challenge will be held on the 15th March, where the schools will present their ideas in the form of a Science Fayre to a panel of judges, with one team being crowned ‘Wearable Tech’ champions.
