Does the gender gap in the digital and technology sector still exist?
According to a recent report from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, only one in five IT specialists are women.
We are partnering with businesses across the industry to change help change this. Girl Tech Plus is an event which has been carefully designed to help bridge the gap between young women and the digital and technology sector.
We sat down with one of our amazing volunteers from this year’s event. Hannah Rymer is a Project Accountant role at Quickline Communications. This year will be her first Girl Tech Plus event.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s Girl Tech Plus event?
I’m most looking forward to meeting the young women taking part and hearing what interests them about technology. My career has developed through finance and telecommunications, from KCOM to my current Project Accountant role at Quickline Communications, and I’d like to show that there are many routes into tech. I’m also studying an AI Activator course, which proves learning can continue at any career stage. I hope attendees leave feeling curious, confident and excited about the opportunities open to them.
Why do you think events like Girl Tech Plus are important to your industry?
Events like Girl Tech Plus matter because our industry needs a wider range of voices, experiences and ideas. Telecommunications is evolving quickly, with digital innovation and AI creating opportunities across technical, commercial and support roles. Finance is part of that story too, as a Project Accountant, I use technology and problem solving to support practical decisions. Meeting relatable role models helps young women see that there is no single route into tech and that curiosity, communication, creativity and confidence are just as valuable as technical knowledge.
